Chef De Piece (Switzerland)

This is a chef de piece. It was company: Robert H. Bovet. It is dated 1790–99 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is cotton and its technique is block printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

Warp: 52 cm (20 1/2 in.). Weft: 86.5 cm (34 in.) Both selvedges present.

It is inscribed

Printed stamps at one end of the piece, "Bovet Robert H de neuchatel en Suisse Bon Teint" in elongated box; "D 2", "C 20" and "DC" all in black boxes at the side. There is some evidence of a red stamp at the lower right edge but fabric is torn in that area.
