Textile With Factory Stamp (France)

This is a Textile with factory stamp. It was manufactured by Oberkampf & Cie.. It is dated 1762–83 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is cotton and its technique is pinted by engraved plate on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 233.7 x 55.2 cm (7 ft. 8 in. x 21 3/4 in.) Repeat H: 102.2 cm (40 1/4 in.)

It is inscribed

Factory stamp at one end bearing the mark of the Oberkampf manufactory in use between 1762 and 1783. Also the printed initials 'EB' enclosed in a box. (initials od one of the workers). Also 'D55' (standing for Design Number 55) handwritten in red ink.
