Chef De Piece (France)

This is a chef de piece. It was produced by M.Buchot. It is dated 1770–90 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is linen warp, cotton weft and its technique is block printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

This object was donated by Cora Ginsburg. It is credited Gift of Cora Ginsburg.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 31.8 x 60.3 cm (12 1/2 x 23 3/4 in.) Repeat H: 20 x 28 cm (7 7/8 x 11 in.)

It is inscribed

Stamped impression in red at one end of fabric: " MBUCHOT AROUEN BON TEINT"within a curving frame and "PLF" within a circular frame. Handwritten in fading ink "21 1/2 aune". On the back in pale blue-gray, the letter "O". The pricipal identification mark may be read from two directions, up and down.
