Valance With Chef (France)

This is a Valance with chef. It was company: Wetter Freres. It is dated 1790–99 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is plain weave cotton, lined with plain weave linen, trimmed with plain weave silk and its technique is block printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Its dimensions are

Warp: 48cm (19in.). Weft:109cm (43in.) Shaped valance is made us of 3 pieces. No selvedges in seams. Pattern: Not present.

It is inscribed

Partial stamp at one end, " MANUFACTURE DE WETTER FRERES &..." in an oval medallion and "?130" in black. In a seam there is a small part of "MANUFACTURE DE ..."
