This is a sidewall. It is dated 1900–29 and we acquired it in 1995. Its medium is block printed and flocked on continuous paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

Chinoiserie has been popular on wallpaper since the export of Chinese hand painted scenic papers in the late seventeenth century. Printed in red flock this design contains an asymmetrical arrangement of stereotypical views including women with parasols, hilly landscapes, and pagodas.

This object was donated by Henry Spencer and Mrs. Henry Spencer. It is credited Gift of Dr. and Mrs. Henry Spencer.

It is inscribed

Stamped on selvedge: "Reg. No. 668431".
