Poster, NR. 4

This is a Poster. It was designed by Wolfgang Weingart and made for (as the client) Kunstgewerbeschule. It is dated 1974 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is lithograph on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

Having abandoned the International Style’s approach to design, Wolfgang Weingart experimented without the restrictive tenets of the Modernist design philosophy. Because he was a self-taught designer, Weingart had the freedom to develop his own way of working with typography. NR. 4 is one of a series of posters promoting his individual approach in this Swiss New Wave style of graphic design. Weingart’s characters are representational — a departure from the legible type of the International Style.
