Box

This is a box. It was produced by Cartier. It is dated ca. 1925 and we acquired it in 1994. Its medium is leather. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

It is credited Gift of Denis Gallion and Daniel Morris.

A rectangular red enamel cigarette case with a horizontal orientation adorned by baguette diamonds set in platinum and placed back to front on the inner side of the raised lip on each side of the lid creating a symmetrical composition. The diamonds continue over the lid to the top of the front where a thumbpiece is centered decorated with six rose-cut diamonds set in platinum in a row. The object could easily fit into the palm of your hand. The photograph captures the cigarette case at an angle from above where the lid, front and left side are viewable as is a reflection against a white ground.
