OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) XOXO laptop Prototype For A Computer

This is a Prototype for a computer. It was designed by Bret Recor, fuseproject and Yves Béhar and attributed to Nicholas Negroponte and manufactured by One Laptop Per Child (OLPC). It is dated 2008 and we acquired it in 2011. Its medium is pc/abs plastic. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Networked systems are rapidly becoming the dominant form of experiencing education and culture in the 21st century. The OLPC (One Laptop Per Child) XOXO laptop, a low-cost computer designed specifically for the developing world, was created to address the problem of limited access to new digital technologies.
The laptop is designed to be easy to use and functional despite the frequent absence of schools, desks, or books in underdeveloped areas. Its small size and light weight effectively make it a moveable classroom. The laptop can be held flat, angled, or like a book, which allows the flexibility to work individually or in groups. Its durable infrastructure functions outdoors in extreme heat and humidity. As education embraces new digital tools, the nonprofit organization OLPC seeks to ensure that disadvantaged children also benefit from these technologies.
