Poster, Graphic Design China 2005 (GDC 05)

This is a Poster. It was designed by Bi Xue Feng. It is dated 2005 and we acquired it in 2010. Its medium is offset lithograph on aluminized plastic foil. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

In the early 21st century there is an active and vibrant graphic design movement in China exploring complex issues of national identity and global acculturation. Graphic Design China, by Bi Xue Feng, was designed for a national graphic design competition and exhibition and explores the theme of national identity through its imagery and typography.
Xue Feng graduated from the China Academy of Art in 1989. In 1997, he founded his firm, Imagram Graphic Design Inc., in Shenzhen, China. In addition to running a full-service graphic design company, he is interested in design theory and lectures around the world at many graphic design symposia. His work has been shown at national and international exhibitions, including those in Paris, Zurich, Brno, the Czech Republic, and Germany; he is also the recipient of many graphic design awards.
In 2005, Xue Feng was awarded a four-month residency in Paris by the Cité internationale des Arts, Paris, an arts foundation that provides residencies for professional artists who want to develop their work in France. The Cité also sponsors exhibitions where visual artists can display their work. Graphic Design China was created during the designer’s Paris sojourn.
This is one of two posters by Xue Feng proposed for acquisition as part of the museum’s effort to add examples of contemporary Chinese graphic design to the museum’s collection.

This object was donated by Bi Xue Feng, Chinese. It is credited Gift of Bi Xue Feng.
