Sidewall (France)

This is a sidewall. It was manufactured by J. Grantil Company. It is dated 1929–30 and we acquired it in 2010. Its medium is machine printed on paper. It is a part of the Wallcoverings department.

The strong patterning on this matched set of wallpaper and border combines hard and soft shapes, along with dark and light colors. The border echoes the colors and forms found on the sidewall which lessens the impact of introducing more pattern. The pair form a cohesive unit that would be dramatic but not overwhelming.

This object was donated by Carolle Thibaut-Pomerantz. It is credited Gift of Carolle Thibaut-Pomerantz.
