Textile, Pyramid

This is a Textile. It was produced by Knoll Textiles. It is dated 1976 and we acquired it in 2011. Its medium is cotton and its technique is screen printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Christa Haüsler-Goltz studied with Margaret Hildebrand at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg. Haüsler-Goltz had a long and fruitful career as a freelance textile designer, including a 10-year association with Taunus Textildruck. Through a personal connection with the former director of Knoll Textiles, Suzanne Huguenin, she was introduced to Barbara Rodes-Segerer, then vice president for design of Knoll Textiles, who commissioned her to design a collection of prints. The collection was introduced in 1977 at Heimtextil, the contract textiles trade fair in Frankfurt. Pyramid, one of two printed cottons in Haüsler-Goltz’s collection, brings vitality to a static geometric pattern through carefully modulated bands of color.
This would be the first design by Haüsler-Goltz’s in the museum’s collection.

It is credited Gift of Cindia Cameron.
