Coffee Set (Austria), ca. 1902

This is a Coffee Set. It was designed by Jutta Sika and produced by Schule Professor Koloman Moser and manufactured by Wiener Porzellan Josef Böck and made for Koloman Moser. It is dated ca. 1902 and we acquired it in 1986. Its medium is enameled porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

The surfaces and forms of this coffee set are based on the circle. From the rust-red surface decoration to the cutouts in the handles and lids of the vessels, Sika plays with the circle as both a utilitarian and a decorative shape.

This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Coffee Talk: Celebrating the Birth of Jutta Sika .

It is credited Museum purchase from Charles E. Sampson Memorial Fund.
