Vibrant indigo-colored conical bowl with two stylized divets notched on oppposite sides of the rim. The conical shape blooms upward and outwardly from a very small white base at the foot of the bowl. The diameter is very wide at the top and very small at the bottom, the bowl itself very thin.

Pebbled YKB Bowl

This is a bowl. It was created by Elsa Rady. It is dated ca. 1980 and we acquired it in 1984. Its medium is glazed porcelain. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Ceramist Elsa Rady studied pottery as a child, starting at age seven, and later at the California Institute of the Arts (formerly the Chouinard Art Institute) in the 1960s. The artist experimented both with form and process; the two notches on the rim of this bowl were added to prevent cracking during firing, but also for aesthetic effect. Rady created both functional and more decorative works, which she is best known for today. She preferred to display pieces on shelves as art rather than on a tabletop.

Modern, architectural quadruple bud vase in a glossy, jade green ceramic and composed of four box shapes in varying heights and widths, attached together in an angular fashion. The art pottery piece features a narrow raised bud opening centered at the top of each box, similar to an inkwell. The geometric shape, sharp edges, and solid coloring are reflective of the Cubist style. The vase is set against an grey-black ombre background.
