This is a Drawing. It was designed by John De Cesare. It is dated April 5, 1957 and we acquired it in 1982. Its medium is color pencil, graphite on cream wove paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.
The artist has used the final score translation of "Taps" (see Study 141) as the basis for designing the forms of the doorway and the grill-work. The three repeating units in the grill door relate to the lyric's three verses combined with the eight bars of the bugle solo. The cross in the grill is also derived from the score.
