Teapot with Dark Celadon Glaze Teapot

This is a teapot. It was possibly by Johann Christoph Hesse and manufactured by Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. It is dated 1730–1735 and we acquired it in 1984. Its medium is hard paste porcelain, vitreous enamel. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

This object was donated by Michele Beiny. It is credited Gift of Michele Beiny in memory of her grandfather Hanns Weinberg.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D (a,b: overall): 11 × 19 × 10.5 cm (4 5/16 × 7 1/2 × 4 1/8 in.) H x W x D (a: pot): 9.1 × 19 × 10.5 cm (3 9/16 × 7 1/2 × 4 1/8 in.) H x diam. (b: lid): 2.3 × 5 cm (7/8 × 1 15/16 in.)

It has the following markings

Underside of teapot: [1] double crossed swords, painted in underglaze blue (Meissen Porcelain Manufactory mark) [2] "19", incised underglaze [3] lines, incised underglaze on rim (very faint) Reverse of lid: [1] "L2437", written in blue ink on paper label applied to reverse of lid (old inventory number?)
