A slanted metal screen with an asymmetrical design of uneven waves alternating with a symmetrical oval pattern of negative space that appears to be metal netting that was stretched showing a gradient of small to larger oval openings from bottom to top of screen. The screen wears a brushed satin finish.

This is a screen. It was designed by Joris Laarman.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Joris Laarman as part of Joris Laarman Lab: Design in the Digital Age.

It is dated 2017. Its medium is stainless steel.

The screen in this gallery represents a piece of the MX3D Bridge that will be installed over a canal in Amsterdam. The design of the screen was derived from the same algorithm used to design the MX3D Bridge. The screen was 3D-printed in stainless steel using the MX3D process.

A digital print greyscale drawing consisting of an amorophous shape which has the appearance of a long-backed chair with a low rectangular front. The shape is made up of repeating swooping curved lines which give it a sense of dynamism and a mesh-like appearance. The rectangular front piece is long and almost black at the front with many lines, the back of the chair-like shape appears to be made of grids of lines.
