Drawing, Packard Concept Car

This is a Drawing. It was designed by John Reinhart and from the office of Packard Motor Car Company. It is dated ca. 1939 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is graphite, white color pencil on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

John Reinhart's earliest years in the automotive industry were spent working for the premier American luxury car manufacturer Packard. In this concept drawing, Reinhardt includes the company's iconic insignia, the swan, just above the grill. The car is depicted frontally at a slight angle, emphasizing its triangular shape and pointed grill. The disproportionately large face of the car nearly obfuscates the windshield and the fact that the car is a convertible.

It is credited Museum purchase through gift of Paul Herzan and from General Acquisitions Endowment Fund.

Its dimensions are

35.6 × 50.8 cm (14 × 20 in.)
