Oculus Rift Headset, Control Box, And Carrying Case

This is a Headset, Control Box, and Carrying Case. It was designed by Palmer Luckey and manufactured by Oculus VR. It is dated 2013 and we acquired it in 2017. Its medium is molded plastic, infrared-transparent fabric, led lights, glass, foam rubber, electronic components. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Launched in 2012 via Kickstarter, the campaign for the Oculus Rift raised $2.4 million, almost ten times more than its original goal of $250,000. This headset, shipped to backers of the Kickstarter campaign at the level of $300 or more, alerted the gaming world to the potential of this new technology. The virtual reality experience broke the boundaries of flat screens and is now becoming an entirely new communication platform.

This object was donated by Robert Greenberg. It is credited Gift of Robert M. Greenberg.
