Below are three of the models, all displayed palms up, in a varying combination parts. Displayed from left to right - a dark brown hand with a light gray side patch, light brown with a dark ball of the thumb, and a deep dark yellow hand with a mustard color ball of the thumb. Surrounding the hand prosthetics, are some of the customizable parts displayed as a single item. These include: different colored ball thumbs, side parts, and a color palette in squares used beneath each of the lower palms. Materials used are wood, leather, beech, cedar, acetate, wool and steel.

Prosthetic Hands, Hands of X (3 sets)

This is a Prosthetic hands. It was fabricated by Hands of X.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Hands of X as part of Access+Ability.

It is dated 2017. Its medium is beech, cedar, leather, cellulose acetate, felted wool, steel.

The Spring Summer 2018 collection of prosthetic hands features a palette of everyday materials. Each wearer browses swatches and creates a simplified jigsaw hand to specify a material combination for hybrid digital-manual fabrication. Co-designed with wearers and makers, the Hands of X service was piloted at Cubitts eyewear store in London.

It is credited Lent by DJCAD, University of Dundee and Institute of Making, University College London, with MAKLab, Glasgow, funded by Research Councils UK.

A 3D printed hand prosthetic in the form of a glove-like assistive device on a white background. The device and it’s other smaller components are in black. It has four fingers and an opening for the thumb area. The part for the fleshy mass on the palm, also known as the Thenar, breaks the solid black enclosure with a perforated design. The device extends from the palm to the wrist area, connected by several strings attached on punctures. The wrist plate is similarly designed to a thick open bangle.

An assistive device in the form of a forearm prosthesis in black. It is in a non-traditional design with cues from decorative and fashion jewelry. The palm area is geometric in shape and has details cut in triangles and squares. The device extends to the wrist, followed by thin wires breaking the solid object into something see-through. The arm plates have circular punctures on the sides where a red ribbon is sewn through, creating a corset effect.

A lower limb prosthesis on a gray background. In its prototype form, it is composed of leather, fiberglass, steel, resin, neoprene, and skateboard veneer. Its foot is slightly arched and is in beetween two solid black parts. The foot is attached to a steel ankle connected to a solid light brown lower leg. Two bolts on each end is attaches the lower leg to its solid backplate in black.
