Textile, Lumi

This is a Textile. It was designed by Akira Minagawa and made for minä perhonen. It is dated 2016 and we acquired it in 2018. Its medium is foundation 100% wool; ribbon yarn 100% silk; flock print 100% rayon. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Since traveling to Finland as a teenager, Japanese fashion and textile designer Akira Minagawa has felt a deep connection to Scandinavian design and culture, particularly in the strong influence of nature. Lumi means snow in Finnish, and this textile evokes snow flurries against a night sky. A silk ribbon flocked with white dots is woven into a deep blue wool base. Its ends are left to flutter, giving a subtle movement.

This object was donated by minä perhonen. It is credited Gift from MINA CO., Ltd..

Its dimensions are

H x W: 99.1 × 137.2 cm (39 × 54 in.)
