Textile, Swing

This is a Textile. It was designed by Akira Minagawa and made for minä perhonen. It is dated 2012 and we acquired it in 2018. Its medium is 100% linen and its technique is printed on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

Hand-drawn stripes are a signature of Akira Minagawa’s work, their irregularity bringing lightness and whimsy to an otherwise rigid design. In Swing, a pattern of blue and white stripes devolves into dangling ribbons which appear to curl and bounce near the hem. The large-scale screen print is an engineered border pattern, which was used for both a dress and a skirt in minä perhonen’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection.

This object was donated by minä perhonen. It is credited Gift from MINA CO., Ltd..

Its dimensions are

H x W: 341.6 × 122.6 cm (11 ft. 2 1/2 in. × 48 1/4 in.)
