Aluminum Bracelets Two Bracelets

This is a Two Bracelets. It was designed by Lisa Spiros. It is dated 1988 (a), 1990 (b) and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is etched aluminum. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Spiros finds inspiration in the geometry of totemic forms and ancient monoliths. Their purpose for ritual use remains mysterious, yet the artist mirrors her process of construction with these structures. She chooses metal as her medium because of its fluid response to shape, and its association with endurance, as well as the multiple surface possibilities.

This object was donated by Susan Lewin. It is credited The Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
