Necklace from the Kalandia Checkpoint Series Necklace
This is a necklace. It was designed by Deganit Stern Schocken. It is dated 2007 and we acquired it in 2016. Its medium is aluminum (crushed soda cans), zircons. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.
Stern-Schocken uses salvaged crushed aluminum soda cans from a security checkpoint on Israel’s West Bank to imbue her necklace/pendant with the powerful context of a nation that has lived with decades of conflict.
