This is a Coffee Set.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Collection of John C. Waddell as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

Its medium is pewter, ebonized wood.

While the aesthetic of this hand-wrought pewter coffee set, probably designed by Kem Weber around 1928–29, is different from his candelabra, both were made by Porter Blanchard, with whom Weber worked. The reeding suggests the form of the wood elements in Weber’s sideboard and chair.

A pair of pewter candelabra, each with three candle sticks that have cylindical holders set on discs at the top. Two of the candle sticks are straight columns, and one, in the center, is shaped like an abstracted flower, with a curved, striped stalk and two leaves at the base. The candle sticks sit on three rounded rectangular blocks of pewter on an ebony base.

Silverplated tray in a streamlined, Art Deco style composed of a simple circle with a raised lip. The two opposing handles are flat, curved rectangles with rosewood accents. The elegant piece references a take on machine aesthetics and is presented with a complimentary cocktail shaker, resembling a modern tea service.
