A cigarette holder fabricated in colorful plastic with a streamlined body. The light green area used for the mouthpiece is rounded then progresses into a form with squarish corners for more than half of the body. The attached part has a small dark section, probably used as a filter for the smoke. It is attached to the remainder of the body having squarish sides, manufactured in tan plastic that expands slightly into the opening where a green plastic covers the corners at the tip. The photograph captures the cigarette holder against a light gray background.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from The Carolyn Hsu-Balcer Collection as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

It is dated 1920s. Its medium is plastic.

By the 1920s most jewelers in the United States and Europe carried smoking accessories. The cigarette holder protected one’s fingers and eyes while also playing a significant social and fashionable role. Although men used cigarette holders, the Jewelers’ Circular credited the rise of female smokers to the cigarette holder industry, which used a great range of materials and eye-catching styles.

Rectangular platinum cigarette case. The embellishment is on the shorter sides of the piece. There are ten small rectangles of round diamonds, three per setting. They have been placed horizontally on the top and bottom of the sides. The diamond sets are separated both vertically and horizontally by larger channel-set baguette sapphires.
