Object ID #907214275
This is a Rug. It was manufactured by Bigelow-Hartford Carpet Company.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Yale University Art Gallery as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.
In this rug by major American manufacturer Bigelow-Hartford Carpet Company traditional French designs of a floral wreath and basketwork patterning have been flattened and abstracted for the modern consumer. As a result of market research, the company began to offer rugs such as this one in modest sizes to suit apartment living.
It is credited Lent by Yale University Art Gallery, John C. Waddell Collection, Gift of John C. Waddell, B.A. 1959, 2010.158.12.
