A subdued silk screen-printed textile panel with a black ground that pops with vibrantly-colored, repeating vertical rows of stylized, magenta and mauve and lemon and orange round flowers, possibly sweet williams or phlox, which are accented by smaller floral varieties in blue, mauve, yellow, and orange, with sage green stems and leaves. The linear floral arrangements undulate horizontally with movement and are crossed vertically with columned trellises that are weaving with tumbling, carnation-like orange and yellow flowers, such that a repeating grid, quilt-like pattern is formed, whereby each floral square repeats twenty times.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from The Art Institute of Chicago as part of The Jazz Age: American Style in the 1920s.

It is dated Designed 1922; produced 1924. Its medium is silk, twill weave; screen printed.

Best known for his stage and costume designs for the Ballets Russes, Léon Bakst created textiles for Clingen and Selig that were an artistic and commercial success for both designer and producer. Bakst arrived in the United States in 1920 through the patronage of Mrs. John Garrett of Baltimore, whose husband was ambassador to France.

It is credited Lent by The Art Institute of Chicago, Gift of Robert Allerton, 1924.184.
