Hoody Dress, Throw Yo' Hands Hoody Dress

This is a Hoody dress. It was designed by Sarah Elenany and manufactured by Elenany.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco as part of Contemporary Muslim Fashions.

It is dated 2009. Its medium is digitally printed cotton jersey. It is a part of the department.

Sarah Elenany was one of the earliest purveyors of modest streetwear for Muslim youth, creating long-sleeved hoodies printed with graffiti-style graphics. Her “Throw Yo’ Hands” pattern is formed by the shahada gesture—with one finger pointed upward to testify to the oneness of God—with raised fists and V signs, common symbols of unity, strength, and peace.

It is credited Courtesy of Sarah Elenany .

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition Contemporary Muslim Fashions.
