A speckeled black lidded vessel sits atop a thin stand. The shape of the vessel resembles a submarine, its black form marked with irregular spackles of blue, orange, pink and white. The stand is structured with thin sticks, which appear fragile and worn in appearance, shaped similarly like a saw horse but with a curved deck to hold the object.

Vessel, Metamorphism, 2017-ongoing

This is a vessel. It was designed by Shahar Livne. It is dated 2017-ongoing. Its medium is lidded lithoplast vessel on stand, lithoplast vessel, wide chisel, brush and thin-hooked chisel, touch sample lithoplast material. It is a part of the department.

As natural resources diminish and, with them, many media-specific crafting processes, Shahar Livne reframes the material impact of the 20th century’s reliance on petrol-based plastics. Plastic waste, which clogs land and sea, has been undergoing geologic processes, compounding and morphing into a clay-like substance that Livne molds and shapes using traditional methods.

A rectangular silk sample. At the center is a stone path that leads to two edifices - a small tower and then a larger tower behind it. Tree branches dangle above the two towers and a small tree marks the entry to the aforementioned stone path. Floral patterns border the bottom and left side of the sample.

Dishes and cups, in assorted shades of light brown and off-white, are approximately arranged in two rows on a pale blue surface. From left to right, the front row featrures a stack of three flat plates, a larger white dish with a brown elliptical design in the center, and a similarly decorated lipped shallow dish to the right. Behind this row, again from left to right, is a solid light brown, shallow dish. Behind this dish is a white, handleless cup, which darkens in shade to a reddish-brown near the bottom. Next to the cup is a larger, off-white serving bowl, within which there is a smaller, light brown bowl. To its right are five cups, all without handles; three light brown cups stacked atop each other, and two off-white cups side-by-side. The latter are faintly shaded in a light, reddish-brown around the bottom. Two organic shapes, one resin-like and honey brown in color, and another, solid black crumpled object, are placed in the left center and to the far right corner of the display.
