This is a Banknote. It was designed by Herbert Bayer.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Merrill Berman as part of Herbert Bayer: Bauhaus Master.
Bayer designed these emergency banknotes during a period of hyperinflation in Germany. In other parts of the country, currency designed in more traditional, Germanic design styles reflected nationalist ideology.
It is credited Collection of Merrill C. Berman.
