Textile, Avis

This is a Textile. It was designed by Marion Dorn Kauffer and manufactured by Edinburgh Weavers. It is dated 1938. Its medium is jacquard-woven cotton, rayon. It is a part of the department.

Vibrant woven textiles such as Avis boosted Dorn’s reputation in the 1930s. In 1934, she established Marion Dorn Limited, and became one of few female business owners in the textile field in London. Her studio handled everything from fabric design and production to distribution and interiors. Dorn also designed her own logo and advertisements.

It is credited The Whitworth, The University of Manchester.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 45 × 43 cm (17 11/16 × 16 15/16 in.) Mount (fabric covered board): 46.2 × 46.2 × 2.5 cm (18 3/16 in. × 18 3/16 in. × 1 in.)
