Book, Brazil Builds: Architecture New and Old 1652-1942

In the 1940s, Kauffer became the most exhibited and collected commercial artist at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. His friend Monroe Wheeler, head of the museum’s Exhibitions and Publications Department, hired Kauffer to design many of the museum’s publicity materials and publications. Wheeler endorsed the use of unusual cover designs to “catch the customer’s eye and arouse his interest or curiosity.”
