A large vase is colored in forest green with a large swatch of yellow in the center, at the bottom of which appears several buildings. Branches and leaves appear at the base of the vase. They also appear at the top and appear to be growing downward, overflowing into the yellow area.

Vase (France)

This is a vase. It was made by Daum. It is dated ca. 1895 and we acquired it in 2013. Its medium is glass, enamel fusions. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Daum produced layered glass similar to that of Emile Gallé’s, and gradually perfected several original and difficult techniques, such as using colored glass powder, wheel cutting, martelage (producing a hammered texture), mold-blowing, and acid etching. These techniques resulted in stunning decorative effects
when combined on a single piece of glass

It is credited Gift of Harry C. Sigman.

Round white porcelain plate with wavy brown-edged rim, painted with a large pancratium flower and insects. Filling the plate, broad pointed leaves in green and yellow-green. Filling the top half of the plate, a cluster of large purple flowers with long pointed petals and curling yellow stamens atop a blue stem. Surrounding the flower, smaller insects in various colors. At twelve o'clock, a blue and green winged insect; at eight o'clock, a pale purple and yellow butterfly; at ten o'clock, a purple and yellow winged insect.

A wooden rocking chair. Its arms and bottom are dark wood that looks untreated. On its sides, connecting the arms to the bottom, are curvy figure 8 shapes formed from this dark wood. The seat and back are lighter wood planks, each one thin and rectangular. Behind the back is a large circle, formed out of the worn, darker wood.

Circular, elongated vase with a top that flares outward. It has a shiny, dark green appearance with iridescent glaze, with stylized flowers among leaves embossed on surface. There are hints of brown and blue due to the iridiscent quality. About a quarter of the way from the top, is a dripping, almost marbled pattern that touches the petals of the flowers, stops, and continues near the bottom of the vase. The vase also has a foot that flares outward, but is smaller in size than the opening at the top.
