Poster, China Image

This is a Poster. It was designed by Jianping He. It is dated 2004 and we acquired it in 2014. Its medium is screenprint on paper. It is a part of the Drawings, Prints, and Graphic Design department.

This poster, the earliest example of He’s work to be added to Cooper Hewitt’s collection, was designed for the Taiwan Poster Design Association. The poster features the two Chinese characters that together translate as "China." The characters were modelled in ceramic by artist Sonny Kim, and painted to recall the iconic blue and white floral pattern associated with the country. He staged these two ceramic models against a bough of white cherry blossoms.

This object was featured in our Object of the Week series in a post titled Blue and White.

This object was donated by Jianping He. It is credited Gift of Jianping He.

Its dimensions are

118.9 × 84.1 cm (46 13/16 × 33 1/8 in.)
