Mouse, Transparent Machine: Touch Haptic Mouse Prototype

This is a mouse. It was designed by 3D Systems and industrial design by Scott Summit.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from 3D Systems as part of Beautiful Users.

Its medium is stereolithography, made with photopolymer resin.

Prototyping mechanical parts allows devices to be tested and validated before manufacturing begins. Printing the components in clear plastic gives the designer a window into a device’s behavior in motion. Shown here is a transparent prototype for a haptic (touch-based) mouse designed for modeling 3D objects.

It is credited Courtesy of 3D Systems.

Its dimensions are

H x W x D: 25.4 × 25.4 × 15.2 cm (10 × 10 × 6 in.)

This object was previously on display as a part of the exhibition Beautiful Users.
