Book Illustration, My Life in the Making, Red Dress from the film HERO

This is a book illustration. It was designed by Emi Wada and edited by Can Wong and published by Communion W Limited. It is dated ca. 2002. It is a part of the Smithsonian Libraries department.

Emi Wada designed the costumes, including the one pictured here, for the 2002 film, HERO, a story about the first emperor of China, Quin Shi-huang. In all, 54 distinct shades of red were used in the film. “Different dyes and materials from England and Japan were mixed and tested to create the stunning palette.”

It is credited Collection of Smithsonian Institution Libraries.
