Paper Construction, One Red Dot: A Pop-up Book for Children of All Ages

Beginning in 1980 David Carter, an American author and illustrator, was employed as an artist, paper engineer, and book designer for the publishing house Intervisual Communications Inc. (ICI). Working with creative director Jim Diaz, and a variety of other artists, Carter learned the fine art of paper engineering and pop-up book making.
In 1987, Carter left ICI and began his own business, commencing with the publication, How Many Bugs in a Box?. Since that time, Carter has created more than 70 pop-up books. The master paper engineer is acclaimed for his use of color, shape, and surfaces. As part of a five book series on color, One Red Dot presents 10 captivating and elaborate pop-up sculptures, each hiding a red dot. This visual "hide and seek" game challenges the reader to find the red dot. Carter’s works are innovative creations in three-dimensional form with sculptural constructions that rise from the page.
