Textile, Stimulus Fabrics: Zeros
This is a Textile. It was manufactured by Schiffer Prints (a division of Mil-Arts Co.). It is dated 1949 and we acquired it in 2015. Its medium is cotton and its technique is screen printed on twill weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.
Architect, author and critic Bernard Rudofsky took the typewriter as the starting point for several of his designs for the Stimulus collection, including Parentheses, Si & Non, and Fractions, also in the Museum's collection (1991-101-1). Zeros highlights the variation among the circular forms zero (0), the letter O and period (.) in a lively, syncopated stripe. Zeros was offered in three colorways to the trade.
It is credited Museum purchase from General Acquisitions Endowment Fund.
