Miracle Chip
This is a Miracle Chip. It was designed by Michael Anastassiades and manufactured by Henraux Foundation.
This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Michael Anastassiades as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.
Miracle Chips is a series of sculptural objects that defy our expectations about marble. Instead of seeming flat, static, and grounded, these wafers of stone appear flexible and light. By progressively curling the edges of each disc upward, Anastassiades creates a sense of movement. The last disc in the sequence has become a three-dimensional shape that invokes feelings of airiness and flight.
