Textile, Walnuts

This is a Textile. It was designed by D.D. Tillett and Leslie Tillett. It is dated 1950–1959 and we acquired it in 2015. Its medium is cotton and its technique is hand-pulled stripes, ink applied with dragbox, screen printed, on plain weave. It is a part of the Textiles department.

In this design, the grays and browns of hand-pulled stripes are revealed in the form of walnuts, which are reserved in a black-printed ground. The design was also printed on silk for men’s pocket squares.

This object was donated by Seth Tillett and Nicole Rauscher. It is credited Gift of Seth Tillett and Nicole Rauscher.

Its dimensions are

H x W: 175.3 × 133.4 cm (69 × 52 1/2 in.)
