Wall Hanging, Goliath

This is a Wall hanging. It was designed by Hechizoo Textiles.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Hechizoo Textiles as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.

It is dated 2015. Its medium is varnished copper wire, polymetal, pirarucu fish scales, metal.

Founded by Jorge Lizarazo (Colombian, b. 1968), Hechizoo is a weaving atelier that produces textiles for rugs, upholstery, window treatments, and architectural meshes. Hechizoo mixes indigenous natural fibers—such as jute, raw silk, and wool—with unconventional materials—such as copper, twine, and steel wire—resulting in textiles that filter and reflect light. Goliath is a woven ode to the imperiled rainforest. The piece incorporates the scales of the pirarucú (the largest fish in the Amazon) and the quills of the porcupine (who drops her spines to mate with her partner).

It is credited Courtesy of the artist and Cristina Grajales Gallery.
