Atmospheric Reentry, from Atmospheric Reentry collection

This is a Atmospheric Reentry. It was designed by Maiko Takeda.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Maiko Takeda as part of Beauty—Cooper Hewitt Design Triennial.

It is dated 2013–2014. Its medium is acetate, acrylic, plated brass.

Inspired by the environment and its ephemeral nature, Takeda recreates the lightness and buoyancy of the natural world in her collection Atmospheric Reentry. Using bristles of thinly shredded acetate, this headpiece emulates the soft shape of a dandelion, while also exposing its synthetic creation with a halo of a neon green color gradient.
