Smell Lab, Smell Lab

This is a Smell Lab. It was designed by Sissel Tolaas and produced by International Flavors and Fragrances, Inc. (IFF). It is dated 2016. Its medium is bottles, printed labels, smell analysis papers.

Tolaas is a smell designer, artist, chemist, and researcher who is inventing new words to communicate smell. She values sensory experience as a way to heighten reality and open people’s minds to diverse experiences. This installation represents a corner of Tolaas’s Smell Lab in Berlin, where she has built a vast physical archive of smells, collected from around the world.
