Autumn Intrusions, Autumn Intrusions

This is a Autumn Intrusions. It was designed by Heatherwick Studio and Thomas Heatherwick and made for (as the client) Harvey Nichols, London. It is dated 1997. Its medium is polystyrene, aeroply, birch plywood.

How can a shop’s window display relate to its architecture?
British luxury retailer Harvey Nichols invited Heatherwick to design windows for its London flagship store during fashion week. In line with the store’s promotional flair, the studio snaked a jagged sculptural form— based on a polystyrene model carved with a kitchen knife — through and around ground-floor windows and columns.
Unlike isolated objects behind glass, this “display” engaged the architecture, unified the façade, and burst into the street. It was the studio’s first major public project.

It is credited Courtesy of Heatherwick Studio.
