This is a Cocktail shaker with tray. It is dated ca. 1928. Its medium is sterling silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

While most of the Danish architect Karl Fisker’s forays into silver exhibited swooping curves and graceful forms reminiscent of art nouveau, this cocktail tray and shaker stand in stark contrast; the shaker takes the form of a fluted column while the tray, also fluted at its edges, takes the form of a stylized and corrugated cog wheel. A melding of classicism and machine age aesthetics, this cocktail shaker represents a highpoint of Danish silvermaking in the interwar period. In 1928, House and Garden illustrated this reeded cocktail shaker and tray. The copy noted that the architect and interior designer Eugene Schoen had imported the set for sale in his New York store.[1] Schoen, active in introducing New Yorkers to European modernisms, had set up his business at 115 East 60th Street, where he displayed full model rooms for consumers to imagine how his retail fantasies could become a domestic reality. This important retail link cements this cocktail shaker and tray’s appeal for the modern American consumer.

A pair of bookends displayed on a dark gray, gradient background. They are made out of ceramic and have a tarnished, dark bronze color. The overall shape and color are comparable to how one would describe a machine part. The inner-portion, like most traditional bookends, has a 90-degree composition while the outer portions have a decoratively industrial feel. It has zig-zagged edges like portions of a cogwheel. From an aerial perspective, the bookends extend to the sides with curving and angular detailing.

A small carved scent bottle fabricated from frosted rock crystal, gemstones, enamel and platinum. The body resembles a column in form and images made from frosted columns alternate with shiny carved long ovals with straight sides. At the top of the body is a circular mouth with a stopper made from rock crystal mirroring the form of the body. The stopper is encased and adorned with a drum-like device created from black enamel and platinum in the form of an arch with a pointed top and scalloped sides. A sequence of round cabochon emeralds and rubies and faceted diamonds in platinum settings embellish the device. The black enamelled platinum base is hexagonal in form and evenly spaced rose-cut diamonds are situated in a platinum setting on the base. This object could easily fit in the palm of your hand. The photograph captures the scent bottle standing with a cast shadow on a white surface.
