Model PH4 Hanging Lamp Hanging Lamp, ca. 1932

This is a hanging lamp. It was designed by Poul Henningsen and manufactured by Louis Poulson & Co. A/S. It is dated ca. 1932. Its medium is glass, brass, bakelite. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Paul Henningsen’s interest in lighting started as a child by observing the glare from bare bulbs in his childhood home. By the 1920s, as a practicing architect in Copenhagen, his interests included the design of electric lamps that reduced glare and directed light where needed. Louis Poulson hired Henningsen, and in 1926, and began production of PH lamps. The PH4 hanging lamp designed in 1932, is a four-tiered variant, offering ambient light for a large area.
