Model 1017 Coffee and Tea Service Coffee And Tea Service

This is a coffee and tea service. It was designed by Henning Koppel and manufactured by Georg Jensen Sølvsmedie. It is dated 1952. Its medium is silver, walnut. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

Koppel’s designs for hollowware, such as this coffee/tea service, changed Georg Jensen’s aesthetic during the 1950s. Koppel trained as a sculptor and designer and began working for the Jensen firm in 1945. These nature-inspired forms follow Jensen’s tradition of incorporating naturalistic motifs into the decoration and design of his wares. Koppel’s biomorphic forms were critical to the firm’s development as a leader in mid-twentieth century modernist silver and this service exemplifies Scandinavian modern design during this period.

This object was donated by George R. Kravis II. It is credited Gift of George R. Kravis II.
