Video, Cross Section of Equity

To illuminate a series of small-scale attempts to build and distribute equity in conditions of widening inequality, this video installation counterposes a set of day-in-the-life portraits of individuals in urban, suburban, post-industrial, and rural contexts throughout the state of Ohio with a selective history of government responses to and drivers of poverty in the United States.
This 4-channel video installation cuts a section through a series of small-scale attempts to build and distribute equity in conditions of widening inequality.
Urban: A community leader on the East Side of Cleveland manages several shelters and a donation center in her free time. Nearby, contractors working on energy efficiency retrofits become owners of their own cooperative construction company. (left screen)
East Cleveland (Slavic Village)
Surburban: A group of community organizers work with public-transit-reliant workers to save suburban bus routes from elimination in the face of extreme budget cuts to public transit. A small city ponders its fate after 2 steel mills and an auto plant were shuttered in the past decade. (bottom screen)
Parma and Lorain
Rural: A dairy farmer helps to coordinate preemptive efforts in the school system to stem the tide of opioid overdoses in the county. (right screen)
