Bright blue, patterned rectangular case with rounded corners and gold accent lines with a curved, geometric diamond plaque. The marble-like blue enamel includes asymmetric strands of lighter and darker shades, with four graduated and shaded solid bars below and accented with gold lines. The thumbpiece and plaque are in a stylized, arrow-like shape and filled with french-cut and baguette diamonds.

Vanity Case, 1938

This is a Vanity Case.

This object is not part of the Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection. It was able to spend time at the museum on loan from Private Collection as part of Jeweled Splendors of the Art Deco Era: The Prince and Princess Sadruddin Aga Khan Collection.

It is dated 1938. Its medium is enamel, french-cut and baguette diamonds, mirrored plate glass, gold,platinum.

It is credited Lent by Private Collection.

A blue and turquoise cylindrical, baton-shaped object is placed next to a rectangular case at a diagonal angle, both with similar decorative elements. The cylinder is a royal blue lapis lazuli case with gold rings on each end. The flat bottom end is composed of a wheel of inlaid turquoise, with a smaller gold ring framing a lapis lazuli round. The adjacent rectangular case is decorated with the lapis lazuli on each side, and a diagonally cross-hatched inlaid turquoise center panel. The turquoise reveals darker speckles along the top surface. The case is accented with vertical and horizontal gold lines, and highlighted with a small, rectangular latch of a french-cut diamond framed on each side with cut sapphires. A slightly blurred reflection of each object mirrors the objects on the white surface.
