A brooch in the form of a flat white oval surface with two rectangular parallel translucent slats. When light reflects off the material they have an irridescent quality. The two cantelievered slats extend past the edge of the base and begin shortly past the center. The brooch is worn horizontally.

Palette Brooch

This is a brooch. It is dated 2015. Its medium is dichroic mirror, corian, silver. It is a part of the Product Design and Decorative Arts department.

In this brooch, two rectangular dichroic mirrors are mounted vertically on a flat Corian base causing them to take on an insubstantial or floating quality and creating diaphanous color effects that change with the viewer’s position and fill the space with light while leaving voids between the mirrors.

It is credited Promised gift to the Susan Grant Lewin Collection, Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
